Overview of Courses:

At D.D.S.S. we offer a wide range of technological studies, meeting the needs of those wishing to go into the trades and those wanting a more rounded high school education.

Construction & Woodworking:  Tcj 2O  Tcj 3e  Tcj 4e

mini houses In our introductory Construction Technology class, Mr. van der Meer takes students through all the basics of hands and power tool usage and safety. In grade 11, the process of house building and pricing is experienced, covering topics such as: framing, shingling, wiring and drywalling. Students in grade 12 are taught the cabinet making skills of the historic masters as they reproduce antiques.

Equipment: D.D.S.S. has a large, fully equipped industrial grade woodworking shop with numerous upgrades such as a $75,000 dust retrieval system, all new Bessey clamps, drum sander, edge belt sander, new Metabo sanders, saws, planers and the list goes on. Couple top quality equipment with new lights, windows, cupboards & texts, and you have a construction shop second to none.

Skills Competitions: Using their skills, D.D.S.S. students have been competing in various local and regional competitions; winning awards, scholarships and bragging rights.

Manufacturing:  Tmj 3e  Tmj 4e

Down the hall our industry trained Mr. Rauser teaches Manufacturing Technology. In this classroom exists a fully operational machine shop equipped with 16 lathes, milling machines and CNC machines. Also included are welding booths and fume extractors. With his expertise and knowledge, Mr. Rauser is able to teach students the nature of metals, the safe operation of tools in the manufacturing shop and how to put the two together for a great career.

Mr. Rauser also teaches drafting, utilizing both the traditional method of pencil and paper as well as AutoCAD. Students are then able to transfer these concepts to the Manufacturing and/or Construction shop.

Automotive Technology:  Ttj 2O  Ttj 3e Tj4

Mr. Kawamura, an expert in diagnostics with years of experience in the business. Mr. Kawamura is constantly seeking ways to improve Transportation shop which already boast two hoists, room for 6 cars and enough tools to keep everyone busy. Along with the theory lessons, which are integral to any technology class, Mr. Kawamura provides numerous hands on applications to reinforce what was learned. From small engines to basic car maintenance and repair, this is the class to be in. This is also a good course for girls to take so that, even if they are not interested in doing their own major repairs, they will know what the garage is talking about when their car needs attention.

Computer Programming:  Tik 2O

Mr. Robyn introduces students to the basics of programming computers to complete tasks set by the user. Utilizing the TURING programming language, students will code simple programs and graphics, setting the stage for future more in depth studying of this challenging and fascinating field.
