PPL 1O , 2O, 3O Healthy, Active Living

In these courses, the emphasis is on regular physical activity through a variety of activities depending on grade (badminton, soccer, football, basketball, canoeing, volleyball, 5-pin bowling, wrestling etc.) Overall, the majority of class time is spent participating in activities. Furthermore, each course offers students a health component to explore and discuss a variety of the following topics [ depending on grade ]: alcohol, tobacco, decision making, social skills, healthy eating & nutrition, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, substance use & abuse, making good personal choices, healthy sexuality and communication.

PPZ 30 Health for Life

phys edThis course allows the students to examine Healthy Living and looks at many different areas of life. Example - Develop a personal approach to living a healthy life, physical fitness and different methods of training, human anatomy, medical conditions (diabetes, cancer, etc), non traditional methods of health care such as naturopathy, chiropractic, massage therapy, and acupuncture. Students split time between the gymnasium, fitness room and classroom.

PAL 30 Hockey Skills Course

This course focuses on Hockey as the primary activity. Students spend class time with on-ice sessions, classroom sessions and dryland skill development as well as fitness sessions. The emphasis in this course is skill development in the sport of hockey. The curriculum used has been developed by Hockey Canada and the instructor has received training from Hockey Canada. Students must wear full protective equipment when participating in the on-ice classes.

PPL 40 Healthy Active Living and PLF 4C Recreation & Fitness Leadership

Students will participate in a variety of activities with the emphasis placed on lifelong participation. Students are introduced to and will participate in activities at facilities in our local community. Examples of activities: curling, 10-pin bowling, squash, swimming, tennis, golf, canoeing, mountain biking, lacrosse, archery and paint ball. Students will also become certified in CPR during the health portion of the course. In the Leadership course, students are expected to participate in a minimum of three leadership roles [ for example organizing a lunch hour intramural tournament ] during the semester.

PSE 4U Exercise Science

Students will examine a variety of topics which include, anatomy & physiology, sport psychology, history of Canadian sport, bio-mechanics, coaching philosophy and motor learning. The students spend the majority of class time in the classroom with some opportunities to participate in lab activities in the gymnasium.
